A Young Dog in Silent Distress

When rescuers from Saahas For Animals first noticed the young female dog later named Gia, something about her immediately stood out.
Her belly was severely swollen.
It wasn’t the healthy roundness of a well-fed dog, but something very different—something heavy and unnatural that made even simple movement difficult. Each step seemed slow and exhausting, as if her body was carrying far more than it should.
The swelling was caused by a large buildup of fluid in her abdomen, a condition known as ascites.
For Gia, even standing and walking required effort.
It was clear she needed help quickly.
A Journey to the Rescue Center
The team gently brought Gia back to their rescue center, where she could receive proper medical care.
At the clinic, veterinarians began a full evaluation to understand what her small body was facing. Blood tests were performed, followed by ultrasound imaging and a complete physical examination.
The results confirmed what the team had feared.
Gia’s white blood cell count was extremely high, indicating a serious infection somewhere in her body. Her liver enzyme levels were also dangerously elevated, suggesting that her organs were already under heavy strain.
It was a complicated and fragile situation.
But the team refused to give up.

A Treatment Plan Built With Hope
The veterinary team began treatment immediately.
Gia was placed on antibiotics to help control the infection. She also received liver-support supplements and additional protein to strengthen her body. A course of fenbendazole was started as part of a deworming treatment, addressing another possible source of weakness.
But medicine alone was not the only support she received.
The rescue team made sure Gia stayed warm and comfortable. They encouraged her to eat, monitored her closely, and spent time gently reassuring her throughout the process.
Every small improvement was celebrated.
Every quiet moment mattered.
Care That Went Beyond Medicine
The video shows something that numbers on a medical chart cannot measure.
Volunteers sitting beside Gia.
Soft hands stroking her fur.
Arms wrapping around her small body to help her feel safe.
The team also consulted multiple veterinarians and performed additional tests, hoping that somewhere there might be another treatment, another solution that could help her recover.
Everyone wanted Gia to have a chance.

When Love Isn’t Always Enough
Despite all the care she received, Gia’s body had already been weakened by illness for too long.
Her condition continued to decline.
Sometimes, even the most dedicated care and the deepest compassion cannot overcome the damage already done. The team stayed with her, making sure she was surrounded by comfort and kindness in her final hours.
No animal should face illness alone.
Gia didn’t.
A Quiet Goodbye
In the final scene of the video, the room appears calm and still.
Gia’s small bed is empty.
A message appears, sharing the heartbreaking news that she has passed away.
But what remains just as clear is the love she received during her final days.
For a brief time, Gia knew warmth, safety, and people who cared deeply about her life.
And sometimes, that kindness—offered when it matters most—is the greatest gift rescuers can give.
